A Village Church According to Harry Fett tells the story of a medieval churches in Norway. Many churches had painted religious motives which during the 19 th century was covered with white chalk. In 1940 the Norwegian ministry of Cultural Heritage began the work of restoring and bringing back the wall paintings. The artist Gerhard Gotaas was given the task while Norway’s first State Antiquarian described the process in a book. During the restoration Gotaas discovered not only magnificent and unusual biblical stories on the church walls. In one of the churches, he also uncovered a wall with 2600 demons. Since then the Demon wall of Sauherad church has been a mystery up until now.
